A Look In the Life of Kyla Neal
You see, animals have always intrigued me, I would always want to have one or be around one. After riding for 11 years of my life I was caught by a horses touch. I never understood how they understand us so well, when we barely know ourselves. I believe animals speak much more than us humans do, as they don't say a word but if you observe, they can show you a whole world. It wasn't until I rode my first horse did I understand, that they feel just as much as we do. Riding horses opened my eyes to animals' emotions, as when you are sitting in the saddle, you can not be angry or scared. They pick up on your feelings and take it with them, if you are scared, they will be. I understood this concept for years and years, but knew I had to apply it. I decided to become a vet in Junior High. I always knew I would be a vet, but one day my trainer asked me “What type of vet do you want to be?”. I knew something with horses, but what were my options? Unfortunately after 7 years, my guinea pig reached her last stages of life. I was frantically trying to find a vet who would take her in, and came to the realization that there are no vets in my area that work on a guinea pig as she was an exotic pet. The closest exotic vet clinic was 2 hours away, therefore I stayed home to comfort her as she passed away. I was angry with the fact that no vet would take her in, but on that day I found the answer to my trainer's question. I want to have small and large animal knowledge as a base, but understand exotics as well. To be the saving grace for another little girl or boy, wanting the best for their guinea pig, hamster, gerbil, mouse or whatever they love is my goal.
After high school, I spent the summer working as a Nursing Assistant and taking online courses. In the fall I left for college and began my college career! I will graduate within 6-8 years. To help me get a head start, I took advantage of the classes my high school offers. I have taken Chemistry I, Chemistry II, Biology I, Psychology, Algebra I, Algebra II, QL Statistics, Elements of Communication, ICC Sociology, ICC Certified Nursing Assistant Classes, and Parenting, to increase my skills needed as a veterinarian in the future. With these classes and more, my cumulative GPA is at 3.75, and my weighted GPA has reached 3.78.
I hope to take my persistence to the next level in college, and not only keep, but raise my GPA. I hope to make it into vet school and do well.
I have been as active as I can within the ILQHA community. I show at the youth world, as well as AQHA shows that take place in Illinois. Gordyville is where I can be found very often, as I show AQHA there as well. I was elected to be on the ballet for the junior board as well.
I have been a part of 4-H for 10 years. Within that time, I have had the opportunity to fill the secretary position in my club for 5 years. Within this position, I often help lead the team to volunteer opportunities.

I show in AQHA shows of course.
I have shown within the NRHA, and am now a part of Arkansas and Texas stock horse associations, and show with my collegiate team within those.
I often show or volunteer at CIRT(Central Illinois Riding Therapy)
I can also be found at Youth Charity's annual show.
Due to my grades, character, leadership and service, I was elected into National Honor Society my sophomore year and have been in it since. The National Honor Society has required volunteer hours and GPA to make, at all times. This has influenced me and my future very much. I have learned of so many new volunteer options through NHS and have decided to carry on my volunteering and service activities through my life.
